Almost there

Since the end of the pandemic there has been a notable absence at Thorrington Scout Camp, as unfortunately we have been unable to offer climbing and abseiling since.

Our climbing tower has stood the test of time and has been used by many over the years, and we’ve had lots of you asking when or if climbing will be returning to the campsite.

Well, we are pleased to announce that the refurbishment of the climbing tower is nearing completion, but this refurbishment has been no easy task, with the tower requiring a full recertification and renewal of the boards and climbing holds being completed also. So when we say we’ve refurbished it, we really do mean a full-refurbishment, which is even more epic considering we have managed to achieve this in-house via the tireless efforts of our wardens.

We are overjoyed to see the return of climbing and cannot wait to have our climbing tower back in action.

The tower is a central part of the Thorrington Scout Camp experience, offering thrilling adventures and invaluable learning opportunities for our scouts. Whether it’s building confidence, enhancing physical fitness, or fostering teamwork, the climbing tower provides an irreplaceable experience.

It is hoped that the tower will be fully finished for the autumn, but we will give further updates nearer the time.

A thanks to our wardens

The refurbishment of the tower has been fully undertaken by our warden teams, who are all voluntary, meaning they have given up their spare time to help reinvest in the young people of Essex, and frankly climbing would not have returned without their hardwork and dedication.
